670 million people – 10% of the world’s population – are disadvantaged by poor vision and a lack of spectacles.
Of these 670 million;
At least 45 million people who need glasses are of working age; these people risk being unable to work because they cannot see well enough
- 13 million children around the world need glasses. Many of these children risk missing their education because they can’t see well enough to learn
- Over half a billion older people have blurred vision that effects close-work such as reading or sewing. This is due to ageing of the eye, a very normal process, and can easily be treated with reading glasses. –
- Women account for two-thirds of the people who are visually impaired because they cannot get the glasses they need.
Donating your old glasses to us could change someone’s life dramatically. You can bring them into us at our shops or to our office and warehouse. These are then shipped to hospitals and eye projects overseas where the prescription is checked using a special machine. They are they given free of charge to patients for whom they are suitable.
