The Seed Bank Project was designed to provide rural poor women farmers with agricultural inputs ( seeds, Tractor
ploughing services, extension support, storage facilities) to assist them in improving their incomes, to enable them to
feed their children nutritionally and support them to go to school.
Five ( 5) women’s groups from the Nadowli District were registered onto the JWG Seed Bank Project, namely; Sombo, Goriyiri, Fian, Janguasi and Dapouri (featured above with JWG Project leader Sandra)
Last years farming season had its fair share of climatic challenges, but through the issuing of seeds and regular monitoring of farms, the women were able to get good yields.
JWG Project Leader Sandra out in the field monitoring the ploughing activities of the Tractor. The Motorbike and safety accessories were donated by York Vikings Rotary and The Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust. It enables Sandra to be able to get around to the many communities we serve – on
some of the rough dirt roads that are characteristic of this rural environment . May/ June 2011
The JWG Tractor and plough – donated by Angus UK to support our Seed Bank project, was able to plough over eighty Five (85) Acres of land for women farmers this farming season. This early ploughing places the women in good position to benefit from larger yields at harvestime, once the rains don’t let us down.
